VCA ART 2021

Tom Bourke

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours)

There’s been a crushing feeling in my chest for some time now. It feels like a parasite sucking the life out of me. I want to rip it from my chest; I want to be loud and graphic, like a victim falling prey to the killer in a slasher film. Black, sticky forms cloud the space, inhuman creatures exuding anger, sadness, grief. My work is the exposure and destruction of these forms – an ecstasy of removal, violence in the air. Through sculpture, performance and sound, I’m freeing myself from this parasite.
