‘Respawning’ refers to the resurrection of a character after death during video gameplay. My work explores how respawning can be used as an artistic strategy beyond its original intention, to reveal new possibilities in other forms of digital media. I use 3D-modelling software to construct virtual worlds, synthesised to create a resurrected nature that is more than nature itself. These videos attempt to invoke the cyclical experience of digital nostalgia, caught in the virtual dreamscape of a screensaver and destined to repeat and remain idle – grasping onto the brief moments of existence between technological highpoints and swift redundancies.
