Madeline Lamb

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drawing & Printmaking)

Connection with people is the driving force behind my practice. My photographs document how I interact with my peers as I stand behind the camera – the barrier between my subjects and self – aiming to capture my friends in the moment before they perform for the camera. This moment of candidness is the most fulfilling way to bring my memory into the physical realm.

The constant party depicted in my photos adds to the relatability of my practice. My subjects often stare comfortably out towards the viewer, welcoming them into the image and in turn into the simulated party setting. More broadly, my work revolves around a contemporary view of queerness, informed by the performance of social stereotypes.
