Ava Hattam

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drawing & Printmaking)

Traversing clay, painting and drawing, my work tests the border between tangible reality and the imagined. Using methods of collage and staging, I juxtapose images of personal objects and experiences with imagined landscapes and spaces. In doing so, I explore the uncanny, strange or otherworldly that comes from a desire to make physical something that is inherently intangible or elusive. Mundane objects become sacred, gelatinous landscapes and vast expanses of colour are important tools in creating a realm that is desirable and consumable, while also remote, distant.
