Tom Coleman

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

Andrew Richard Coleman lived a life that lead to me, I want to say it was full of joy and excitement only but for a man to commit suicide with three young sons its hard to imagine it was a wholly positive life. It's hard to express the relationship built with someone after they've passed. But this is my attempt to not immortalise a man for his final action but appreciate the actions and choices he made before his death. This look into fading memories and forgotten artifacts opened my eyes to absence in relationships. My relationship with my Dad didn't end the day he died like it did for him, I've continued to develop emotionally through the death which shaped my interactions with his memory. I want to explore the area between people and this is the most obvious empty space in my life.
