VCA ART 2021

Joanna Buckley

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

This work is about our place in the cosmos, life and death, emergence and fading away, connection, solitude, and the chaotic and beautiful moments through it all. My art practice is a journey in making sense of the world through a mode of abstraction and sensory experience. These works are simple gestures made with pigment, clay, found objects from nature, gold, linen and paper. They integrate with my experiences of holistic, somatic heart-and-mind knowledge, offering me moments of perspective and wonder. Through these sculptures and paintings, art practice takes me on an exploration beyond subjective experience and into dialogue with my environment, as well as with the viewer when they make sense of their encounters within the context of their own lives.
