David Cherian

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

I want to express the elemental nature of my thinking. I construct work by inspiring the viewer to see the world as straight lines and curved edges, exploring the linearity of how we construct ideas to keep life ‘simple’, to feel certainty about who we are and how we interact with the world. My visual scheme is accordingly monochromatic, with colour highlights that slowly provide the viewer with an interpretive lens to modify how they see the world. From first principles, my intention is to make the viewer reflect upon, critique, understand and feel more perceptive towards the world around them, and to the signs, symbols and stories we use to engineer meaning.
