Andrea Salcedo

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

Informed by personal experience and acknowledging that power is not manifested in a static form, my work deals with the conflict generated between incessant resistance – the need to preserve and assert one’s individuality – and finding oneself situated in limiting social structures. I use my body as a tool through which performative gestures can be transformed into a medium for communicating ideas. Through vitality of movement and repetition, actions become both ritualistic and cathartic, opening up an intimate space of playful mischief in my practice. Within this space, I can instinctively purge, understand and spontaneously transform and transcend the limiting social structures that surround me.
