Dilara Akguner

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

Fact blurred with fiction, poetry mixed with prose, ethnography united with visual arts.

I am a sociologist, writer and an artist working with film, projection, sculpture, neon and installation. My practice uses poetry and prose as a method for notetaking during sociological and ethnographic expeditions.

My current body of work, Between Sex, Spirit, & Sadness, is a memoir of sociological and ethnographic sultry city secrets, lived and observed while residing in several global cities. It is a melody of compiled city stories, both visual and textual, focusing on time in Istanbul and presented in a coffee-table-style book. The book discusses a larger story of social connectedness though a set of collective experiences: love, loss, change, desire, passion, lust, reflection and belonging.
