Mabel Hutterer

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting)

I am a painter working on unceded Wurundjeri Country. My paintings explore consciousness and animalistic bearings. I use personal references to create a dialect between myself and the things around me. Through exploration of my dog, Cooper, I idolise the dog motif and compare his behaviours with my own. Our bond manifests as hallucinogenic forms, spiralling within each other. My references extend to sonic experiences with dance music. I resonate with the wild animalistic tendencies that unleash from warped basslines and rapid percussion. I create liberation in unbounded nonsense, breaking open the cage around the child, dog, human or animal that claws at the inside of the ribcage and gnaws at the heart – an affinity and unity between ourselves and everything else.
