I am interested in the translation of images through different methods of transposition to question the manufactured ‘image’. Through paint, I manipulate images to create ambiguous and seemingly illogical compositions. Each mediation acts to destroy, recontextualise and then create curiosity about the image’s construction.
The intensely saturated colours create a saccharine filter that masks the underlying images and questions the artificial characteristics of images. Drawing on images from personal archives and youth fan culture, my practice plays with sincerity and kitsch. I look to investigate the obsessive nature of fandoms and my disconnection from my own cultural heritage.
