The banal every day has a peculiar way of conflating the micro and macro, by reflecting interconnected, complex global issues and the absurdity of constructed reality. Making use of what is at hand, my work is a playful blend of transient lived experience and the magic of day-to-day and collective circumstances, evoking themes of memory, perception and suspended reality. Using ordinary objects, video and light projection, it embraces a makeshift, lo-fi aesthetic to create a democratic visual language, with humour and absurdity. The work is approached intuitively – like a diary – allowing the private, emotional and unconscious to blend with an awareness of current social circumstances. It invites connections, valuing ambiguity and indeterminacy as ends in their own right.
