Rob McHaffie

Master of Fine Art

My practice explores the possibilities of figurative painting to express a relationship to the built environment. Through observation, drawing and taking photos I piece together paintings that encapsulate traces of contemporary life. Facial expressions are paired with architecture and the body is paired with landscape, creating a site for reflection. The ways we use space, feel liberated by space or confined by space are challenges I wish to explore and keep in dialogue with painting’s rich history of communicating about our place in the world.
